Reviews
Spacious, clean room with a lovely ocean view. Elegant dining room where the tasty breakfast is served. Variety of local cheeses available. Great location just few minutes of walk from UNESCO listed centre of Angra. Helpful staff.
Great location! Right at the top of the marina and within easy walking distance to the city center. All of the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Our room was very spacious and clean. The bathroom had a jet bathtub and a separate shower with a seat and water jets for your back👍🏻👍🏻 And if you have the choice I def recommend getting a room with a balcony. The views of the marina, fort and Mt.Brazil were beautiful.
An excellent place to stay although needs some work on bathroom floors and interior walls. Ultra friendly and attentive staff. Parking garage is a joke for any car larger than a Fiat 500 or Smartcar hence limited on the street parking. Outstanding view of harbour but can be noisy due to traffic.
We had a huge almost empty room. The glass door to the balcony, as well as the windows where very dirty.
There was a very strange smell in the bathroom. As you can tell this hotel does not deserve 5 stars. This hotel has a lot of potential, but it seems like its falling apart.
Breakfast was nice though. Staff is friendly and helpful.
THIS IS NOT A 5-STAR HOTEL!
When my husband and I arrived at the hotel the lobby was deserted. There was no doorman or bellman to greet and help with our luggage. The huge lobby with worn-out furniture was empty. There was no one at the front desk. Behind the front desk was a board that was taped up. Clearly, these were all uncharacteristic of a 5-star hotel. This is a one-star compared to the 5-star and 4-star hotels we stayed at on another Azores island, Sao Miguel. I thought the taxi dropped us off at the wrong hotel.
A few minutes later, a lady came behind the front desk. She was not dressed in professional attire like what you normally see in nice hotels. To our disappointment, she confirmed that we were at the right hotel. Our room was not ready, and she asked us to bring our luggage ourselves to the storage room, which was dirty and smelly. My husband and I were disappointed with what we had seen so far and were quite nervous about the condition of our room.
The room turned out quite spacious albeit sparse and dated furniture. We were at least relieved that it was clean and had no smell. However, many things malfunctioned - the A/C, toilet flush, coffee machine. We complained about the AC to the front desk. He was not surprised as he said it was a usual occurrence. He said the hotel was full and could not transfer us to another room. He promised to send a fan while he schedules a technician to come. Neither came. Thankfully, the temperature cooled down at night. My husband fixed the toilet flush himself. The other things we just let go.
What is annoying about the room is that it does not have the typical light switches on the wall. You must use this weird remote control to turn on the lights, which should be easy to use but it was not. It kept turning on the wrong light.
The breakfast room was huge and served a not-too-appetizing breakfast buffet. You have to help yourself with coffee by lining up at 2 coffee machines, both of which kept breaking down. The only staff present had to keep resetting them each time. The options for coffee machines include cafe latte and cappuccino, but they all come out as black coffee. I told the only staff that they seemed to forget to put milk in the machine, and she looked at me as if I was asking too much.
The pool area looks very run down. It boasts of a pool bar but is not in use. There is a bar/restaurant on the top floor with no ambiance and is always almost empty. Too bad, because it had a lot of potential with its spaciousness and beautiful view of the marina.
The only saving grace of this hotel is its location. To the front of it is the marina, to the left is the historic fort and the town is just a few minutes walk away.
Outside of this hotel, all of our experience in Terceira was 5-star.
Terrible facilities and horribly understaffed. Must preface all of this: Staff really were lovely and tried hard.
Avoid restaurant - limited hours and served us uncooked chicken on salad. Even breakfast was not too good - really bad coffee. Room was massive but had only 2 small twin beds pushed together, a desk and a tiny TV. Half of the room (living area?) was just empty. Small thing but bathroom TP dispenser jutted out into leg when trying to sit.
Staff had no concierge and no knowledge of anything nearby - couldn’t direct to cash machine and couldn’t get us restaurant reservations. Even sent us off to a restaurant that was closed Sunday. For safety - Many times of the day and night we walked right into lobby with no attendants at all.
View wasn’t much - reception and bar take up top 2 floors. Our room was on lowest.
Avoid this hotel - they charge extra as “5-star” for a 2-star experience. We left early and paid less next door at Shipyard for a massively better experience. paper sign taped up on wall in reception is all you really need to see.
Rooms were over the top with gadgets, not necessary. Didn't have a lift to the Marina - it should have - we were 7 floors up. No restaurant !!! This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel !!! Lovely breakfast.
So it is not as bad as we thought it would be after the recent reviews. Plus side is the location and marvelous view of the harbour. Breakfast is beyond comparison. So many options. Even raw nuts in different varieties. If you want to stay fit you can get protein rich food, if you want to become fat you have a wide selection of sugar rich foods. However we got a tip to go to Marquitos gym which was horrible (see our Marquitos review). And black fungus in the bathroom is also not part of the nature I was looking for.
